15th Debica for Debica Festivities will make people realize what are the threats of risky behavior in road traffic
In first half of 2011 in the Debica county 84 road accidents were recorded in which 98 people were injured and 8 were killed, which equaled the death toll in the entire 2010!458 road collisions were also recorded. Despite small fluctuations the overall trend is clear: despite efforts taken by the police and other services for a couple of years now the number of accidents has been growing. Therefore this year during 15th Debica for Debica Festivities the leitmotiv of the Festivities will be safety of road traffic participants.
According to the County Police Headquarters at Debica above 80% of accidents take place in the build-up areas, where also the death toll was also the highest. Most frequently accidents happen on the straight road sections, followed by the accidents on the crossings with the roads with the right of way, far smaller number of accidents occurred on the bends, which are on the third place in this disgraceful statistics.
The highest number of accidents happens on the national roads Nos. 4 and 73, running through the territory of the Debica county, where in first half of 2011 24 accidents and 125 car crashes were recorded, followed by the provincial road No. 985 from Debica to Nagnajów, with 8 accidents and 37 car crashes. Meanwhile in the City of Debica the most vulnerable places in terms of the highest number of road incidents include Lwowska Street, which is a part of the National Road No. 4, as well as Rzeszowska, Krakowska, Kościuszki and 1000-lecia Streets.
Interesting insights are offered by the data on timing of road incidents. The highest number of accidents is recorded in spring and summer months i.e. from April to June and on Mondays and Fridays. In that period in the last half a year the perpetrators of most accidents were the drivers of passenger cars (69 accidents), of which eight were intoxicated.
From year to year the consciousness of road traffic has been mounting on dangerous behavior, however, a lot has to be done. Therefore a leitmotiv of this year’s Debica for Debica Festivities is safety. Before noon in the market square “safety park” will be erected with attractions prepared for the visitors by the Institute of Motor Transport and Psychological Lab from Warsaw. Everyone interested will be able to experience himself in special trainers – car overturn, collision, and also test how alcohol and external circumstances affect the response time of the driver. In its turn the Rzeszow-based Provincial Road Traffic Center will build a mini road traffic training ground, rendering faithfully actual road conditions, where young cyclists – under a professional eye of policemen – will be able to prove their skills. There will be also plenty of competitions and entertainment, so nobody is going to be bored.
„Road safety statistics in the Debica county are alarming. We have to realize that our road safety depends primarily on each of us. Debica and Goodyear, modern tire brands, have been committed to the improvement of road safety for man years now. This time we want to show the visitors to our Debica for Debica Festivities how human body reacts in case of car collision and overturn or under the influence of alcohol. “I do believe that everybody should participate in such experiment in order to change his attitude to more reasonable” – said Jacek Pryczek, President of the Management Board of Tire Company Debica S.A. and Goodyear Dunlop Tires Polska.

The ”Debica for Debica” Festivities is an event organized each year by Tire Company Debica S.A. and Goodyear Dunlop Tires Polska. Each year the Festivities is accompanied by various attractions. This year the attractions will include but will be not limited to the concerts given by Myslovitz and Vavamuffin bands as well as charitable campaign for the needy.
