First Aid Provided by TC Debica

Tire Company Debica S.A. provided Debica schools with manikins for training of giving first aid.

Thanks to Tire Company Debica S.A. the students of all secondary schools at Debica will be able to learn how give first aid. The funds donated at the turn of the year for the purchase of new sets of manikins will enhance safety of population living in Debica and environs.

„Each year the death toll in road accidents in Poland is approximately 6 thousand people. As much as 30 per cent of the injured suffering in road accidents die because nobody gave them first aid on time. Many of them would have survived, if they were given appropriate aid before the arrival of rescue services. Still before arrival at the hospital six out of ten fatalities die. Such deaths are caused by cardiac arrest, choking or hypothermia. Many of them would have lived, if immediately after the incident medical aid was given to them. Therefore under the Safe Debica Program we donated to the secondary schools at Debica specialist equipment for first aid training, so that in a couple of years from now most of young members of Debica and environs’ population could give first aid” – said Marta Konopacka, Communications Director of Tire Company Debica S.A..

On average the ambulance takes 30-40 minutes to get to the scene of accident. Meanwhile crucial for survival of many victims are the first minutes right after the accident. In case of cardiac arrest, if the heart will not start beating again within 4-5 minutes it means irreversible hypoxia of brain and death of the victim. Thus the life of victims is in the hands of people who are on the scene of road accident.

The assistance of Tire Company Debica S.A. will reduce at least partially these disgraceful figures. Manikins donated to the secondary schools at Debica include three models – manikins of an adult, child and baby. Each set of manikin enables realistic training on basic actions related to circulatory and respiratory resuscitation of people falling into all age categories. The manikins included in the set were selected in such manner as to show the differences in anatomic structure of an adult, child and baby and to enable the demonstration of differences of circulatory and respiratory resuscitation of people from various age categories.

Manikins donated to schools are modern devices that imitate realistically the responses of human body:
•    they naturally block respiratory tract, so to restore its patency it is necessary to bend back victim’s head accordingly,
•    they have realistic facial features and movable mandibles,
•    chest goes up during artificial respiration,
•    they have realistic indicators on ribs and sternum that enable the rescuing person to locate the correct positioning of palm to exert pressure,
•    they confirm with sounds if pressure was exerted correctly,
•    they allow realistic feeling of pressure exerted on the chest,
•    the baby manikin has a unique functionality allowing to learn the removal of foreign body blocking the respiratory tract.

The manikins funded by Tire Company Debica S.A. were donated to the students of the following secondary schools at Debica:
•    First Secondary Comprehensive School named after King Vladislavus Jagiello,
•    Second Secondary Comprehensive School named after Jan Twardowski,
•    Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski School Complex No. 2
•    Janusz Korczak Economic School Complex
•    Nicolas Copernicus Vocational School Complex No. 4

In addition to manikins the schools were donated additionally face masks to do exercises on manikins and fully equipped first aid kits made of cordura i.e. waterproof fabric, resistant to abrasion.

“We really appreciate the donation of manikins by Tire Company Debica S.A.. The manikins are vital to train students on medical first aid principles. I do believe that some of our students will have to provide emergency help to another person. Therefore our objective is that each graduate of our secondary school is able to give first aid at any time and under any circumstances” – said Joanna Dymitrowska, Headmistress of Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski School Complex No. 2 at Debica.
