Cool it! It is only a fire drill
Tactical and combat fire drill in the ultramodern Logistic Center of Tire Company Debica S.A. in Tarnów
Today at the Logistic Center of T.C. Dębica S.A. “Goodyear Tarnów 2012” Tactical and Combat Fire Drill. The objective was to extinguish fire in the warehousing facility with car tires, in parallel to the removal of impurities from storm water tank. The fire drill was organized by the Provincial Fire Brigade Headquarters in Cracow and City Fire Brigade Headquarters in Tarnów.
The objective of carried out drill was, among others, to improve alarming skills, taking joint actions and commanding fire protection units when organizing rescue and fire extinguishing operations, and also to check the Fire Safety Manual of the Logistic Center of Tire Company Debica S.A. in Tarnów.
The fire drill in question, planned on a grand scale, was carried out with the involvement of police, emergency ambulance service and the Management of Logistic Center of Tire Company Debica S.A.
„Logistic Center is a huge warehousing facility, equipped with modern fire detection systems. However, it is vital to check all procedures and skills of rescue and city services as well as personnel of Logistic Center and Tire Company Debica S.A. to prevent the occurrence of any risk in the future” – said Michał Mędrek, Logistics Director of Tire Company Debica S.A.
The Logistic Center of Tire Company Debica S.A., is one of the most modern complexes of this type in Europe. Its warehousing area is 46 thousand square meters, which is the equivalent of five full size football pitches! The Tarnow Warehousing Facility is equipped, among others, with 46 modern cargo handling docks providing services to trucks. Additionally the Logistic Center houses two-storey social and office building for warehousing facility personnel, office workers and drivers.
The Logistic Center plays a crucial role for the City of Tarnow. In addition to the contribution to the city purse in the form of taxes, it gives approximately 200 jobs both at the logistic center and its service providers.
An exceptional fire security system at the Logistic Center deserves special mentioning. Given the type of goods stored at the facility, a unique fire detection and fighting system was installed here, meeting Polish standards and stricter requirements of NFPA American standard. In practice it meant the installation of more than 4 thousand smart sprinklers with the flow rate of 220 liters/min., fed with the water supply system with the total length of 22 km. Additionally fire fighting system was equipped with more than 800 m2 of active surface of smoke removal hatch with a ring of external hydrants with double water supply. Also a ground-based steel tank with storage capacity of 1570 cubic meters was built with the purpose of providing abundant emergency water supply to the firemen in case of fire.
