Success of Second Edition of GOODFEST Festival

Already for the second time Debica hosted artists that changed the face of Polish popular music. The Festival was attended by the artists who played original and daring sounds in the country on the Vistula river that could be heard all over the world. <br />

On the last day of August for the second time the Debica Municipal Stadium became a focal point of outstanding artists. Following an invitation of Tire Company Debica S.A. and Goodyear Dunlop Tires Polska, the co-organizers of the Festival, and Filip Berkowicz, the Festival Artistic Director the Festival was attended by such artists as Skalpel, Pianohooligan, Fisz Emade Tworzywo, Mitch & Mitch, Marcin Masecki, Julia Marcell, Très.b and Grabek. The numerous audience and enormous interest in the Festival shown by the national mass media substantiate the claim that a new music undertaking is becoming one of the most awaited cultural events in Poland.

The GOODFEST Music Festival turned out to be highly successful and it represents a reason to be proud of not only by the population of Debica and the Subcarpathian region. The starts of this year’s Festival attracted music fans from all over Poland. The special guest of the Festival was Krzysztof Penderecki, a composer, a conductor and a teacher, and at the same time a native Debica inhabitant, strongly attached to the city. In relation to 80th anniversary of Krzysztof Penderecki birthday the audience sang in his honor “Let him live 100 years”, a Polish equivalent of Anglo-Saxon Happy Birthday song.

„The second edition of GOODFEST Music Festival, an event vital both for Debica, the Subcarpathian Region and also for the overall Poland. The Festival’s objective is to present original, ambitious, free and engagé music. The crowds of fans that attended this year’s Festival and enormous interest shown by mass media from all over Poland is the best evidence that the GOODFEST Festival founds its place deservedly on the cultural map of Poland” – said Marta Konopacka, the Communication Director of Tire Company Debica S.A. and Goodyear Dunlop Tires Polska.

In addition to the excellent artists and bands invited to the GOODFEST 2013 Festival, Filip Berkowicz, the head of such festivals as Sacrum Profanum, Misteria Paschalia, Actus Humanus, or the penderecki // greenwood project, took also care for the visual setting of the event. The multimedia space was arranged by the brilliant artists from Temporary Space Design who, among others, executed projects for such renowned events as the European Culture Congress, the Barbican Centre in London or the Lincoln Centre in New York. Their original audiovisual projects one could admire also during concerts of such music stars as Jamiroquai or Wyclef Jean.

The Festival was opened by Très.B. band i.e. Misia Furtak, Olivier Heim and Thomas Pettit who created an explosive mixture of cultures and music interests, which led to the situation where the alternative pop-rock they offered won big applause of critics and fans. The best evidence are the awards that have recently been granted to Tres.B – 2011 Frederic Award for Debut Record of the Year ("The Other Hand") and the Polityka Weekly Passport 2012 in the Popular Music category – but also they won confidence of fans who helped the band to finance their second album titled "40 Winks Of Courage".

After the awesome concert of Très.b band next artist was Mitch&Mitch, known for their noteworthy arrangements and tunes. They differentiate themselves with playing with conventions and the Festival audience joined them with great joy. At the concert they improvised a great deal, and their extended line-up and unrestricted imagination allowed them in fact … to do everything.

The audience went wild with enthusiasm when consecutive artists – Fisz Emade Tworzywo entered the stage. The duo of Waglewscy Brothers have already won such awards as the Polityka Weekly Passport and the Frederic Award. The performance given by the famous duo stirred a lot of interest, especially amongst hip-hop lovers.

When the stage was entered by a consecutive star i.e. young, high-tempered, well known and popular in the West Julia Marcell, the emotions reached their height. No wonder because the artist has already recorded two albums and has won several prestigious awards including the Polityka Weekly Passport and the Frederic Award.
Everybody who heard Julia Marcell at the Debica Festival are certain that Julia is not a flash in the pan, but the artist who knows her value.

Her performance was followed by Marcin Masecki, the most trendy pianist of young generation. His performance that was a synergy of jazz, avant-garde and classical music made the audience fall into reverie and provoked some reflections. His music skills Masecki perfected at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. His abundant artistic achievements include projects executed jointly with Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Wojciech Waglewski and Reni Jusis.

For the lovers of widely understood electronic music known as downtempo, but also for sophisticated Polish jazz experts, the performance of Skalpel, the Wroclaw-based duo of DJs and producers and Piotr Orzechowski known as Pianohooligan, was the long-awaited show. The distinctive feature of Skalpel Duo became combining of modernity and tradition. That also happened during the GOODFEST Festival. The pulsating rhythms roused the audience. It was also the case with the show of Pianohooligan, a Polish jazz piano player and composer, one of the most frequently prize-winning jazz musicians of young generation.

The Second Edition of Festival was closed by an outstanding performance given by Wojciech Grabek, a violin player, composer and creator of electronic music, “with huge potential and intriguing, courageous approach to music”. Two years ago he recorded an album called "8", but in fact he hit the nail on the head. He was labeled as one of the most interesting Polish debuts in recent years by the Programme Three of the Polish Radio and he was also nominated for the Frederic Award by the Phonographic Academy for the best album with electronic music.
