Sound Skirmish in Dębica Adjudicated
Winning bands will give performance already one week from now during 13th Dębica for Dębica Festivities
We know the winners of the ”Dębica for Dębica” Young Bands’ Review called ”Sound Skirmish in Dębica” with the final held on 20th August this year on the stage of Community Center of Tire Company Dębica S.A. Out of eight bands participating in the Review, selected in the preliminaries, the unrivalled was Via Rei from the City of Tarnobrzeg. The second place was taken by Joke band from Przemyśl, whereas third place - Pigs Like Pigeons. The jury of the Young Bands’ Review appreciated also the efforts of Jackknife from Stalowa Wola, awarding it an honorable mention. A major award for all Review winners will be a concert held on 29 August 2009 during 13th Dębica for Dębica Festivities when the start of the night will be De Mono band. Three best bands were also granted cash prizes amounting to PLN 2500, PLN 1500 and PLN 1000 respectively. The ”Sound Skirmish in Dębica” was crowned with a concert of a local band called Illuminandi that filled in almost fully a movie theatre at the Community Center in Ignacy Lis Street.
The ”Sound Skirmish in Dębica” Young Bands’ Review was dominated by strong, guitar tunes, but also wind instruments and even violin were played. At the professionally amplified and lit stage, the Dębica audience could listen to and watch many interesting performances. The winning Via Rei band presented an energetic blend of reggae with rock and jazz elements, additionally having excellent interaction with the audience enjoying themselves at the foot of the stage. A ska-punk Joke band was awarded a second place for captivating energy and charisma on stage. Then a rock band called Pigs Like Pigeons presented a mature mixture of charisma on stage and energy. The youngest band at the Review called Jackknife took everybody by surprise with professional performance and maturity of lyrics.
The bands were selected by a professional jury consisting of the music journalists: Leszek Gnoiński, Tomasz Buszewski and Tomasz Radziszewski, a guitar player of the Świetliki band and Marta Konopacka, the Public Relations Director of Tire Company Dębica S.A.
”All artists participating in the Review deserve an honorable mention, since each of them performed to the best of his or her abilities on the stage, and additionally they presented an interesting music proposal. However, only few artists were able to captivate the audience with their music and energy. And that was the decisive factor in jury verdict. Whether it was right or not everybody will be able to judge himself already on 29 August this year during the Dębica for Dębica Festivities. We are happy that many young people play the instruments and make successful attempts to compose their own music. We hope that they will succeed in establishing their presence in the music market and that this Young Bands’ Review made a contribution to that goal” – said Leszek Gnoiński, the Jury Chairman.
