13th Dębica for Dębica Folk Festivities

Dębica, 16 June 2009 - On the last weekend of summer vacations, on Saturday 29 August 2009 Tire Company Dębica S.A. and Goodyear Dunlop Tires Polska invite everybody to 13th Dębica for Dębica Folk Festivities. The folk festivities that has traditionally been the crowning of summertime in Dębica, will be exceptional this year, because it coincides with 70th anniversary of Tire Company Dębica S.A. foundation. Consequently next to music attractions that will include this year, among others, De Mono band, the organizers want also to involve Dębica inhabitants and the Subcarpathian region population in the process of reconstructing the history of Tire Company and its role in the life of the city, and also to show changes of Dębica landscape that occurred over the years.

Already on 18 June a contest will be announced for the most interesting historical photo of Dębica and tire factory from the family archives of the Dębica city dwellers. The best photos will be published, and every contestant will have an opportunity to win an attractive prize. In parallel to the contest, under the patronage of the Polish Association of Artist Photographers photo workshops will be held for the disabled disadvantaged children. The workshop will be organized in collaboration with the lecturers and teachers of photography from the Subcarpathian region. The photographers will run workshop that will teach children, among others, history and rudiments of photography and how to use camera. Then they will take own pictures in the outdoor locations, documenting Dębica with their own eyes, including in particular places known from old photographs that will be provided by the Dębica city dwellers during competition. The selected photographs, both historical and taken during photo workshop, will be exhibited in the Regional Museum in Dębica.

The photo workshop will be attended by approx. 20 people from 3 Dębica-based organizations extending aid to the needy: - "Joy" Association of Parents and Friends of the Disabled, - The Association for Aid for Disabled Children with Cerebral Palsy - The "I CAN" Integration Club for Disabled Youth - "Nazareth" Day-Care Room. The photo workshop will be for their participants not only add variety to their vacation rest, but also an important element of activity therapy. "The photo activities expand skills of visual expression of our charges and bring them joy related to documenting everyday life, major events and effects of outdoor activities. Such treatment of therapy allows to develop potential capabilities of the disabled, takes into consideration their skills and interests. It stimulates their development and adjusts irregularities" - said Paweł Morawczyński, Deputy Chairman of the "Joy" Association, Head of Occupational Therapy Workshop in Dębica.

The "Dębica Yesterday and Today" campaign is not the only attraction being prepared for the Festivities. During the Dębica for Dębica Folk Festivities 2009 the best bands will give performances - the prize winners in the competition for young bands form the Subcarpathian region, selected by a professional jury consisting of music journalists such as: Leszek Gnoiński and Tomasz Buszewski, and additionally Tomasz Radziszewski, a professional musician - a guitar player of the Cracow-based "świetliki" (Glow-Worms) Band. The competition was targeted mainly to non-professional bands in the Subcarpathian region and will be carried out in two phases. In phase one the jury will carry out screening contesting bands based on pieces of music they submitted, and then the selected bands will compete live during a special concert that will be held in Dębica on 20th August this year. Best bands will receive cash prizes, but major award will be an opportunity to play for the Dębica audience during the Folk Festivities that is expected to be attended by several thousand participants not only from Dębica. During Folk Festivities also local adolescent and children groups will give their performances. A lot of attractions is being prepared for the youngsters. On the stage situated on the football pitch of the Wisłok Sports Club there will be an amusement park, competitions and plenty of other entertainment for younger and older visitors. Like in the previous years, next to the stage a special sector for the disabled will be set up, and in the evening a fireworks show will be held.
