Environmental protection

Ecological investment tasks executed in Debica have been a result of the adopted balanced growth strategy. Completion of the tasks ensures meeting all legal requirements minimizing any negative effects the factory may exert on the environment.

A USD 15 million state-of-the-art gas-fired powerhouse was constructed with enough power-generating capacity that enables it to easily cater for the Company needs and yet share the environment-consciously generated energy to 1/3 of the town 50,000 inhabitants. It has enabled to close down several local coal-fired housing estate powerhouses. The investment task has made it possible to reduce gas emissions by 98%, dust emissions by 100% and waste by 40%. On the Company grounds, there also operates a modern water treatment facility. Quality of the piped off water exceeds that of the water the Company pipes in from the river. The technological changes have enabled to cut down hydrocarbon emissions by 49%, energy consumption per 1 kilogram of product by 19% and water consumption by 55%.

Thanks to these investments overall harmful emissions level have been made many times lower than that specified in the statutory norms. This fact is best reaffirmed by the ISO 14001 certificate the Company received in September 1999 recognizing that its environment management system has been made compliant with the international standard issued by the international certification organization Bureau Veritas Quality International. It should be stressed that Debica was the very first Polish tire company to receive this document.
